Rì Galerie is thrilled to present Behold the Mountain, an online solo exhibition by the well-known Mainland Chinese minimalist expressionism artist Wang Yi-zhou which showcases the most symbolic works of his more than 30 years of artistic creation.
Wang's mountain is the mountain where the beginning of heaven and the earth genesis, taking the mountain as the foundation, it is refined into a generalized approximate symbolic language with simple lines and colors and endows it with infinite energy in a calm atmosphere, therefore, the mountain is no longer just a mountain, which is a kind of spirit, a kind of gravitational force, a full of majestic force and a field of aura full of energy surrounding viewers who see it.
When dealing with the relationships that exist in landscapes, Wang tries to reach a harmonious balance between static and dynamic, lightness and heaviness, sparseness and density, simplicity and complexity. Simultaneously, his penchant for combining calligraphy, ink painting, oil painting, and installation works is subtly displayed. Its art reminds us to reflect on heaven and earth at the beginning of civilization, to return to the original matrix of this world, to experience the most essential truth, and to trigger nature's heart which has been deceived for a long time. In the form of the simplicity of mountain building, titled with the simplest vocabulary - "Mountain", the high mountain is in front, and the line is up to the top.
His minimalist expressionism is a kind of simple and conceptual art that directly and truly expresses self-spiritual thoughts that Arts coexist with its own inertia. Originating from his own cultivation, interpretation, and perception of the real world, it is an experience and expression of philosophical viewpoints. Compared with Minimalism, his minimalist expressionism does not emphasize extreme homogenization, proportionalization, scale, and abstraction, instead, it extracts the most essential features from natural forms and modifies them, which highly integrates his own quality cultivation, so as to achieve a high degree of inclusiveness and distinctive individual characteristics of art, minimalist expressionist art is neither figurative art nor absolute abstract art.
