Thomas Houseago: Abundance

Abundance is a solo exhibition of new still-life and landscape paintings by the British artist Thomas Houseago, which showcases a new series of works created outdoors in a new studio in Malibu, California, that reflect the interconnectedness of the universe and spirit and the transcendent power of nature.

The expressive images evoke ocean waves and Malibu flora at sunrise and sunset, with the sun, moon, rocks, and sky rendered in vibrant colors and undulating lines. Gaining widespread recognition through his original and powerful approach to the subject of the human body, the artist constructs monumental figures, their surfaces, and structures using media associated with classical and modernist sculpture, as well as less traditional materials such as steel and hemp. The production process is revealed. The work reveals the influence of historical and modern Eastern and Northern European artists, including Dutch Golden Age painters, Munch and Van Gogh.
