Sadaharu Horio: A Trace of Time

A Trace of Time is a solo exhibition by the Japanese artist Sadaharu Horio who is a pioneer of modern Kobe performance art and has had a major impact on the Japanese contemporary art scene. He worked tirelessly, often in collaboration with his friends, the so-called "Kuki", which resulted in impressive performance pieces.

His particular approach focuses on cherishing the unrepeatability of moments in a way that freezes them. In Japanese, this is called "ichi-go, ichi-e” referring to the uniqueness of the moment. Every moment is unique and cannot be duplicated or repeated. This word reminds people to cherish every moment that life may encounter. Therefore, he constantly changes his approach, using various materials such as metal shavings, wood, trash, found objects, etc. He gives about a hundred exhibitions and lectures a year, emphasizing that exhibitions and performances are rare.
