Portraiture One Century Apart

Portraiture One Century Apart is the first exhibition of the art gallery connecting Milan, London, and Paris with one show in three spaces at once., which is a selection of works by masters of the 1920s and 20th century, face to face with figurative artists of the 21st century.

The exhibition creates a series of dialogues: 27 artists of different generations from seven different countries-from the 1970s to the mid-1990s that will grace to the walls of MASSIMODECARLO's three European outposts.

Diane Dal-Pra depicts modern life rituals influenced by Renaissance works, reflecting the balanced and mysterious atmosphere of humans and objects coexisting-perfectly matching Achille Funi's classical still life paintings. The intricate woodcarving bas-relief of Mathis Collins cohabits with Daniel Dewar & Grégory Gicquel’s oak vernacular sculpture, transforming tradition into something conceptually confusing, creating a beautiful contrast with the textured portrait of Massimo Campigli. Jenna Gribbon's scrutiny of feelings and intimacy is in harmony with Guglielmo Janni's impeccable drawing skills. Celia Hempton’s nude paintings of male genitals in pastel tones confront contemporary issues related to gender, sex, art, and society. A visual and performance survey of the current concepts of gender, control, sex and power, filtering the experience of digital encounters, combined with the traditional female artistic nudes of Cipriano Efisio Oppo.
