Oh, Marilyn!

Oh, Marilyn! is a group exhibition dedicated to the women's liberation wave of the 1960s in Britain and the United States by four iconic artists Pauline Boty, Judy Chicago, Penny Slinger, and Jann Haworth, which depicts a time of change and rebirth, the recognition and acceptance of new and different female roles in society.

The title of the exhibition is based on the 60th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's birth, whose death represented the beginning of women's empowerment. Pauline Boty's paintings and collages often refer to women's sexuality and current affairs, criticizing the nature of "man's world". Jann Haworth was a pioneer in soft sculpture, which led her to challenge the notion of the female form as a muse or object of desire. Penny Slinger explores feminism and eroticism through work including photography, film, and sculpture. Multidisciplinary artist Judy Chicago was a trailblazer of the feminist movement in the 1960s and 70s; her work has celebrated the diversity of female identity for decades.
