Jaffa Lam: Chasing an Elusive Nature

Chasing an Elusive Nature is a solo exhibition by the Hong Kong-based sculptor Jaffa Lam, which showcases new evocative sculptures and site-specific installations in a variety of mediums, using materials including reclaimed crate wood, umbrella, as well as bronze and stainless steel. The new works will be in dialogue with several earlier works reflecting her longstanding focus on local cultural heritage, history, and exploration of the collective power of cities.

The artist's work oscillates between reality and fantasy, loneliness and intimacy, and passive and active. The wider the oscillation frequency, the deeper the viewer's interpretation of her creative process, which is a strong trend to rely solely on vision. The act and ability to observe can lead to illusions or complexity in things and situations. The artist uses complexity in a way that she envisions what is happening in the world from a micro and macro perspective. It's intricate yet subtle and elegant. She gently reminds us that human actions can send signals of hope and that these actions have enormous potential to shape a better society.
