Zhou Xin-yu: Memories From Out of the Blue

Memories From Out of the Blue is a solo exhibition by the Mainland Chinese artist Zhou Xin-yu, which is drawn from the endless stream of images in the information flow of contemporary society, as well as the images and symbolic memories built on them.

Her artistic practice combines animation theory with experimentation based on the medium of printmaking. Her works mainly use mixed media painting as the main medium. The fragility brought about by the fusion of multiple media and material convergence corresponds to the emotions generated by personal experience and publicity in the unfolding of time.

The artist’s calm and warm expressiveness reveals his concern for the fragility and fragmented emotions of real life. The work unfolds through the superposition of different layers, and the twisted lines project clear and important moments extracted from the chaos of memory. In works full of mottled and seemingly old visual effects, she deliberately gives contemporary images an archival quality, allowing her to delicately unravel multiple threads of emotional memory, presenting the remembered scenes as personal performances in drama, recording of many fleeting things, then flashing back to the artist's meticulous observation and material expression, the past and present are intertwined, describing subtle feelings that cannot be elucidated by language or words.

It was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to meet you, and we would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your gracious hospitality and the insightful tour provided.
