Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe

Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe is the second chapter of Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008. This exhibition features over 70 works by more than 40 participating artists, reexamining China's pivotal role as a global production and logistics center essential for modern life. These artworks delve into personal narratives, family histories, and lesser-known regions influenced by globalization and China's remarkable economic growth in recent decades.

The exhibition is structured into four thematic sections, focusing on ecological footprints, representations of labor encompassing artistic creation, communication networks, and the reshaping of the global landscape driven by the transnational movements of people, goods, and ideas. Amidst the evolving realities shaped by China's unprecedented economic expansion over the past forty years, the artists revisit China's position as a key global hub for production and logistics crucial to contemporary life. They explore personal narratives, family histories, and lesser-known regions impacted by globalization and economic metamorphosis.

Moreover, the exhibition sheds light on locally rooted yet often overlooked stories, initially examining the enduring effects of economic progress on natural and man-made environments, preceding the transition to a more sustainable green economy in the 21st century for both the nation and the world. It further highlights the narratives of workers from diverse industries and regions across China, recounting their personal journeys, networks of relationships, and family backgrounds. Through diverse perspectives, these varied insights on China and its diaspora illustrate how individuals' lives intersect with the transnational flow of goods, materials, and cultures.
