Georg Karl Pfahler

Georg Karl Pfahler is a German painter, this is the first solo exhibition in Asia, the exhibition showcases the works between 1965 and 1975, and traces his works from the early 1960s in a concise way of display his Tex and Metro series later defined him in the 1970s. He is known for his vibrant and colorful works, it uses an innovative abstract geometric painting style that appears in block form on a clear background.

Highlights of this exhibition include three works from the artist's Metro series, in which he created exquisite compositions, removed the linear structure of the canvas, and reshaped his own winding borders with ribbons, such as Touro VII (1966-1968). Metro paintings testify that through his devotion to color and form, manipulates his medium to construct a composition that is more similar to architectural and engineering spaces than traditional paintings.

In the late 1970s, his work became more and more gestural, as he introduced a large number of colorful shape blocks with a simple black or white background as the background. This stylistic focus was throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, and continue to influence his work.
