Alan Chan: Collecting Inspiration for Design

Collecting Inspiration for Design is a journey of creation and collection by the Hong Kong award-winning designer Alan Chan @alanchan127, which showcases the art and artifacts that inspired his 50-year career are showcased for the first time.

The exhibition is an extension of the collector's 2022 book of the same name, it features more than 1,000 artifacts from 19th-century silverware and chinoiserie hand fans, to vintage Louis Vuitton trunks and Kyoto lacquer lunch boxes, as well as century-old historical books and prints, as well as contemporary art by the likes of Damien Hirst and Zao Wou-ki.

The designer has long been a well-known figure in the Asian design scene, with a wide-ranging and unique work that spans disciplines, from graphics and products to interior design and fine art, inspired by his lifelong passion for collecting, divided into three themed rooms: “Joy of Collecting”, “Joy of Creating” and “Joy of Curating”, which presents his unique insights into the influences and inspirations that drive his creativity and how he creation and curation into everyday life.
