Yusuke Hanai: Facing The Current

Facing The Current is the solo exhibition by the acclaimed Japanese artist Yusuke Hanai, which features his largest sculptural artwork to to date.

In the exhibition, he showed a new and evolved vision of this counter-cultural art: the word "Current" has a pun of "Tide" and "Present". "Tide" is a more literal meaning and is the most familiar place for surfers. Sometimes it is easy to take the "Current" offshore to the place where the waves break, but sometimes you end up missing a good place because of irresistible forces. Sometimes you will be rushed in a direction that you don't know. If you want to go in, you have to continue paddling. Other times you may face the fatal danger of being washed back to the shore by the currents going to the sea.

In the water, surfers always face the "Current". You never know whether it is a hit or a miss, nor is it where you need to paddle until you enter that particular "Current" once you leave the ocean, you will find yourself face-to-face with another "Current" now.

Every one of us has our own gifts that we need to face: relationships, work, health., etc. We are all faced with various gifts. In this age of information overload, it is easy to deviate from your original ambitions, especially in this uncertain pandemic period, when different actions are often criticized.
