The Floating World

The Floating World is a group exhibition that features works by Hong Kong artists Cheng Ting-ting, Vivian Ho, Li Ning, Nicole Wong, and Yan Wai-yin. The artists from different disciplinary backgrounds will be exhibiting together for the first time in this group exhibition.

Inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e artwork, 5 artists are on display, each inviting viewers to contemplate our environment and the fragile and fleeting state of reality. It depicts a wide range of themes, from the life of the common people, portraits of beauties, to beasts in local mythology, and fantasy stories of heroic deeds. The realistic depiction of the subject matter, mixed with a touch of grandeur and extravagant imagination, caters to the tastes of urbanites. On the one hand, the word Ukiyo symbolizes the pain and sorrow of the sentient world, and at the same time, it symbolizes the world of pleasure of the new urban class. What's more, the idea of a floating world suggests that our world is unstable and ambiguous.
