Nabuqi: Geopoetics

Geopoetics is a solo exhibition by the Mainland Chinese artist Nabuqi, which is based on the novel of the same name - "A Waterless Sea" written by writer Chen Si’an for this exhibition, he created a series of new sculptures and installations to explore the changes in time, memory, spirituality, and faith, the difference between land and sea, and intertextuality relation between sculptures.

The exhibition is based on a structured collaboration: after conducting research in Hong Kong, the artist first commissioned Chen to write a chapter novel; she then conceived a new body of work, which became the starting point for Chan's expanded novel. The exhibition's title comes from the novel, and individual works are named after chapters and elements that appear in the document.

The work explores the relationship between land and sea, which is inextricably linked by the concept of desire in Chen's novel. These elongated sculptural pieces look like unbalanced tools, improvised weapons, or some kind of key to which those arriving from an uncertain future must rely entirely on narrative.
