Jono Toh: You Tell Me

You Tell Me is a solo exhibition by the Australian Hong Kong-based artist Jono Toh, which showcases the artist's vibrant exploration of the relationships formed between shape and color, examining the visual and emotional dynamics within these fundamental elements. The works are both imaginative hybrids of bold, bright abstractions, and complex and playful arrangements of overlapping geometric and fluid forms that serve as conduits for his visual language of expression.

The artist's aesthetic world is not a place to build on rules and ask open-ended questions about the visual consequences. What was often expected was an outlandish mix of interpretations, but time and time again he was pleasantly surprised by the response his work evoked. From his use of abstract painting methods to distill the world around the viewer into its fundamental components, creating works that, while lacking in representation, are still imbued with meaning and familiarity. The work is also an invitation to an interactive experience, asking the viewer to use their imagination to go beyond the surface and form and connect with personal associations.
