Chu Hing-Wah: Bare Life

Bare Life is a solo exhibition of a series of new paintings by one of Hong Kong’s most respected artists Chu Hing-wah, which masterfully documentation how the city has changed in good and bad times, focusing on his deep love for life, especially Hong Kong and its grassroots.

The artist’s work uses Chinese pigments and inks, using layers and diffusion techniques, to express his concern for human relationships and life affairs. His style and technique have the innocent quality of the original painter, but at the heart of his art is a thorough understanding. The emotional tone of his work is devoid of any vulgar urbanity, and the imagery is drawn from scenes of urban life in Hong Kong. Pieces together memories of old Hong Kong with extraordinary colors and clean and simple composition. With a keen sensitivity to the fragility of the human psyche for ordinary people in the city, the real joy of life remains in the bonds of community and family.
