Richard Jackson Works

The solo exhibition of the American artist Richard Jackson Works that is an impressive structure made by the artist in his studio in Los Angeles, California during the lockdown. Inspired by Swiss and American carnivals, a playground shooting range has been recreated, responding to the noble spirit of painting practice by repositioning painting as an everyday experience. The artist fires a paintball gun at the target canvas to create an original painting, while tiny metal creatures at the edges of the canvas are pulled by mechanical chains.

The exhibition also showcases its survey of neon works from the past 30 years, including new works created in 2022. Installed on gallery walls or plinths, his neon signs flashing puns or statements relating to the artist's longstanding interest in hunting culture and its vernacular, ironic commentary on medium-related heroic egos, and works is a direct and humorous critique of the structure of the commercial art world. In addition, a selection of technical drawings of neon and other works are on display, demonstrating the artist's commitment to executing complex structures for himself.
