Ling Pui Sze: Life is Meant to be Messy
Life is Meant to be Messy is a solo exhibition by the Hong Kong local artist Ling Pui Sze, which showcases her years of work it has been printing, shredding, and smearing biological cell diagrams collected from the Internet, and then reconstructing the cell fragments with her intuition of nature, from the outer world to the inner self, the new work turns to use her own body cell map and X-ray image as the material.
The center of her work is breaking down and reconstructing an image into a complete image through a technique she calls "freestyle puzzles", which selects images that resemble specific patterns, including microscopic and satellite images, and prints them on rice paper. Throughout the process, the artist reuses the selected image as a small unit, similar to how a cell replicates itself, resulting in new forms and meanings, such as deconstruction and reorganization following the organic law of continuous division and combination in natural evolution.
