Edmund de Waal: cold mountain clay

cold mountain clay is an exhibition of new and recent works by the English artist Edmund de Waal, the title of the exhibition is taken from the famous Cold Mountain poems that is a series of poems by Hanshan monks, according to legend who lived in seclusion on top of a mountain in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE). This poem is full of frank and strong dialogue, addresses the inevitable passage of time, and traces the introspective state brought about by the loneliness of the monastery.
A potter since childhood and an acclaimed writer, the artist makes porcelain works that function as repositories of human memory and experience. Drawing equally from Eastern and Western traditions, his works blend a minimalist visual language with invocations of the written word, positing the act of collection of objects, texts, materials, and thoughts—as an artistic form.
