Zorawar Sidhu and Rob Swainston: Doomscrolling

Doomscrolling is a joint exhibition of woodblock prints by the artists Zorawar Sidhu and Rob Swainston. The title and inspiration for this exhibition come from this newly diagnosed and addictive obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The exhibition is a relatively new activity, sparked by disturbing and perhaps puzzling current events, an act of spending too much screen time absorbing negative news. Increased consumption of mostly negative news may lead to harmful psychophysiological responses.

Doomscrolling contains 18 moments between 24th May 2020, and 6th January 2021, the U.S. Capitol Uprising Day in Washington, D.C. These dates are associated with iconic images and specific events: The 24th May New York Times Cover the death toll is approaching 100,000, the damage is immeasurable; the second day of the murder of George Floyd; the second day of the protests; Kyle Rittenhouse shoots three at protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin; in Washington Donald Trump turns his Bible upside down after Park Police use tear gas on a group of peaceful protesters; military police cars; protesters raise their hands.
