Xinyan Zhang: Out of the Time
Out of the Time is a solo exhibition by the Berlin-based artist Xinyan Zhang, which exploring humanity and existential fragility, her work often features disorganized imagery of survivors of the devastation, with their eyes, hearts or other body parts hollowed out or mutilated. In the abstract space of the painting, the wounded victim alludes to the decay and withering of the modern spiritual world.
Her work visualizes the spirituality of lust, betrayal, indifference, and other human foibles that distort human existence, with a special focus on the social disadvantage of women and children. Though shaped by traumatic memories, her spontaneity and ease of composition on canvas can be described as playful, straightforward, and narratively charged. She is particularly sensitive to color, which has also become a distinctive focus in her works. Her creative method is characterized by automaticity and intuition.
