Tsang Kin-Wah: T REE O GO D EVIL
T REE O GO D EVIL is a solo exhibition by the Hong Kong local artist Tsang Kin-Wah @tsangkinwah02, which is an immersive experience that explores the fragile core of morality.
The exhibition features a central column and ceiling decorated with text that mimics a tree, while a sloping platform supports screens showing black-and-white footage of real human atrocities, including horrors committed by groups such as the Islamic State. The complex relationship of evil interweaves concepts from the tree of knowledge from different religious traditions. It calls to mind the Garden of Eden and the site of Golgotha, prompting reflections on the inherent cruelty in both divine and human behavior, especially during turbulent moments in history.
This immersive work invites viewers to confront their shadows, revealing the delicate balance between redemption and condemnation, and the struggle inherent in the human condition, a poignant reflection on the intertwined destinies of humanity and divinity. Unacceptable ideas and concepts, dissidents, and entire civilizations are often eliminated or annihilated.
