Anne-Valérie Dupond: Saintes Créatures

Saintes Créatures is a solo exhibition by the French artist Anne-Valérie Dupond, which showcases the complementary relationship between the 2 opposite values of individualism and egalitarianism, and use the 12 zodiac animals in oriental culture as inspiration for creation. The 12 zodiac animals have different allusions and symbolic meanings in different places, and they are brought together to integrate into Oriental culture unique cultural charm.

During childhood, the habit of collecting plush toys has always remained at the heart of the artist, and inspired her signature creative technique, the fabric is re-stitched into a unique fabric sculpture, with a soft texture and sharp contrast seen in the patterns and exaggerated features.

Her work often draws inspiration from traditional art forms such as classical and baroque sculpture, busts of historical figures, and hunting trophies, its work begins a contradictory game between the lovely and the dark; the feminine and the masculine; the majestic in carving and embroidery; the noble and the humbles material. Bronze and marble were replaced with recycled fabrics. Neutrals are replaced by contrasting fabrics. Regardless of the form of presentation, Dupont deals with the duality of opposites with humor. A majestic sculpture becomes a playful experience.
